Sydney-born and New Zealand-raised, Stannard is a punchy all-rounder whose career was upended by a biological-passport case that brought a four-year ban backdated to 2018-2022 and stripped him of his biggest win. Rebuilt at Bahrain Victorious since late 2024, he now does the unglamorous work — positioning, pacing and protecting leaders across the medium mountains.

Palmarès

  • Tour de Wallonie overall winner (2022; later annulled after a backdated ban)
  • Three Vuelta a España starts (2020, 2021, 2022)
  • 6th, Brabantse Pijl (2021)
Cut-out factAlthough born in Sydney, he grew up in New Zealand and raced under the Kiwi flag until switching to Australian nationality in 2017.
