Once a sprint leader himself at Sunweb, the giant from Zaandam has reinvented himself as one of the peloton's premier last men, arriving from XDS Astana to be Kooij's launcher. At 1.94 m he is a human windbreak in the final kilometre, delivering his younger compatriot to 200 metres to go. His third place on a 2026 Paris-Nice stage shows the old finishing speed hasn't gone anywhere.
