General manager
Luca Guercilena

The sports-science-minded manager who helped turn Trek's factory team into one of the peloton's most balanced stage-race and Classics outfits.

Luca Guercilena is a former coach and performance director who became general manager of Trek's WorldTour programme after the Leopard/Radioshack era. His route into leadership was technical: sports science, preparation, and the long grind of turning talent into repeatable results.

Under Guercilena, Trek evolved from a team built around a few marquee names into a deeper structure with sprinters, Classics riders, climbers, and a major women's programme. The Lidl-Trek identity is now one of the most coherent in the sport: sharp recruitment, a modern equipment platform, and an appetite for racing aggressively.

The 2026 Tour asks that system to do two things at once: protect Juan Ayuso's GC ambitions and let Mads Pedersen chase green and stages. Guercilena's value is in building a team where those ambitions can coexist rather than cannibalise each other.

Why it mattersLidl-Trek's depth is a management achievement as much as a roster sheet.
