The process-obsessed Dutch founder whose development system keeps producing riders even when the WorldTour table gets brutal.

Iwan Spekenbrink built the structure that moved from Skil-Shimano through Giant, Sunweb, DSM, and Picnic PostNL. The team has been many things at once: a development academy, a data-led experiment, a sprint and GC incubator, and sometimes a controversial high-control environment.

Its best years produced Grand Tour podiums, major sprint wins, and a reputation for turning young riders into WorldTour performers. Its harder years have brought budget pressure, rider exits, and relegation anxiety. Spekenbrink's constant is belief in systems: pathways, coaching, nutrition, and a clearly articulated team culture.

The 2026 Tour roster leans young and developmental, with Matt Winston guiding the race group. Spekenbrink's job is to keep the long-term model credible while the short-term standings demand points and visibility.

Why it mattersPicnic PostNL is a system team under survival pressure, which makes every July result count twice.
